The early morning sun’s rays continued to shine down on the dark black and orange queen as her short fur was fluffed up to collect the warm sunshine. Pansypelt, locking her hazel eyes with the all too familiar calico queen her friend and the one she grew up with as a littermate Pansybee. “Hi Pansybee, you look just how I feel with carrying these kits inside of me. Are you at the stage were your paws just hurt all the time? Or feeling emotional about everything other’s say to you?” the torti-colored queen asking the question with a loud purr now vibrating out of her body and indicating how happy she was this morning. Blinking her hazel-colored eyes down at the fish, then back up to Pansybee with another gentle flick of her tail to allow the other queen to come sit near her. “Are you hungry for fish this morning? I’m starving and can never seem to get full.” Huffing out as she pushed the fish towards Pansybee first, allowing her to take a few bites, before biting into the fish and chewing the fleshy meat before swallowing it down.
“So Pansybee….are you excited to become a new mother or is the thought of being a new mother scare you?” asking the question gently as concern now replaced the excitement in her eyes as she focused them on the calico beside her. In all honesty the thought of being a new mother was downright terrifying. Sure, she had helped mother a few kits in the nursery that didn’t have a mother and they needed a mother figure in their life, like the cream tabby tom Dewpaw, oh how the young queen loved that tom with every fiber in her body. But biological kits were different, a new concept that scared her. “A-ar-Are you afraid of being a bad mommy and the kits not liking you? I-I’m afraid I’m not going to be a good mommy.” Pansypelt, half stuttering out the sentence, as she lowered her maw to take another quick bite of the fish to distract herself from the thoughts that were now filling into her head.
Well, in the beginning, she was extremely nervous. She viewed herself as unfit and unready for such a big responsibility; especially since it came so unexpectedly and faster than what she figured it would take. But, after a chatting session with Plumpetal, she found out it was desirable, and the advice given was even more so; the infertile she even helped Pansybee prepare a nest bed for when the kits arrive. Her ear flicked.
"At first, yes.. I feared I wasn't mentally prepared for these kits. Big belly equal big litter of kits, and I was afraid I'd show one more attention than the other. But than Plumpetal helped me understand, and eased my mind. So now, I feel alil better. I'd ask Pricklepaw how she did it; have me and you. She just said, 'instincts.'. Whatever that means. But, she also said it'd come in time. So that's what I'm waiting for; I still have another month before they come into the world." She said with a small smile. Pansybee placed her tail on Pansypelt's shoulder with a small nod. "You'll do great."
