I might be okay but I'm not fine at all
Two nights had come and gone since Fallingstar had lost his first life. In her den rested a worse for wear Muddyfoot and the young apprentice she’d come to love as her own each recovering from their own injuries from that night. It would still be a few nights before they left her den though if either of them could have had their way they would have been gone before she had even returned back to camp. Conversations that would have normally drawn on for hours between the three had been reduced to no more than a few words. As she changed their dressings she could feel the anger from Snappaw and the disappointment from her best friend. Each time she met their eyes she realized the thing she had been avoiding the most; she didn’t deserve to be forgiven.
As the two slept Frecklefern sat in her own den, staring at the walls and the ceilings which all were wearing the mark of her clan. The fireflowers which were meant to bring a reminder of the god’s love for the now simply mocked the healer as she attempted to rest. There were times in which she awoke from rest, the images of that night racing through her mind as if she was living them again just to see the fireflowers dangling overhead. If she focused on them long enough she swore they rushed like lava and swirled like fire as if the god was in her home. Finally she had enough and began to tear them down. One after another the flowers floated to the ground like that of the fall leaves. On her hind legs she’d jump to knock the one’s Cariboucloud had helped to place out so they could join the others on the floor. After a few minutes the floor of her private den was littered with dozens of fireflowers. Frecklefern leaned back and sat amongst them for a moment. At least they were no longer mocking her from above.
